Proud to call Old Trafford my home World Cup winner declays

Manchester United on June 19 confirmed that it has reached an agreement with Spanish star and 2010 World Cup winner, Juan Mata, to keep him at the club and the 31-year-old has spoken about his pride in calling Old Trafford his him after signing the contract extension.

Mata, who joined the Red Devils from Premier League rivals, Chelsea, in January 2014, was previously due to leave Old Trafford at the end of June 2019 but has now sealed a two-year extension to his stay at the club with the option of a further season in the new deal.

“It is a real honour to continue to represent this amazing club and our incredible fans. I have been at Manchester United for five years and I am proud to call Old Trafford my home,” Juan Mata said on the Manchester United website after signing the extension.

He added: “I am looking forward to working with Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] and his fantastic coaching staff; the vision that they have for the club is truly exciting and I am so happy that I will be a part of that.”

On his part, United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, described Mata as the ultimate professional. “Juan is the ultimate professional and one of the most intelligent players I have worked with. He is a great example to our younger players in his approach,” the Norwegian said.

Solskjaer went on to say Mata’s experience would serve upcoming youngsters at the club greatly. “As well as everything he brings on the pitch, we have some fantastic young players here and I know that Juan’s vast experience will help them to reach their potential over the coming seasons.”

The former United striker also stated his happiness at Mata reaching a deal to extend his stay at Old Trafford. “I am delighted that he has signed a new contract, as I know that his talent and mentality will be invaluable to the squad,” Solskjaer told the club’s website.

Mata made 29 appearances for the Red Devils in what ended up being a poor 2018/19 campaign as the club finished in sixth place on the Premier League table while also getting dumped out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Barcelona.

The former Valencia midfielder scored six goals and was linked previously with a move back to La Liga but has now put to rest the speculation surrounding his future by signing the contract extension.

During his time at Old Trafford so far, Mata has won an Emirates FA Cup, a League Cup, the UEFA Europa League and FA Community Shield.
