Messi is back with Barcelona with family after holiday

Lionel Messi is back in Barcelona. The captain arrived on Friday with his partner Antonella and the rest of their family.

The star spent his holiday in Argentina and then on the Caribbean island of Antigua and Barbuda, after playing in the 2019 Copa America.

In theory the club expect the players who featured in the Copa to return for August 4 to be present at the Joan Gamper trophy against Arsenal.

That’s Leo, Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal, Philippe Coutinho and Arthur Melo.

However Messi has cut his holiday short and may end up coming back to training early - just as Suarez did, turning up on Friday.

The squad want to be at their best ahead of the start to the new season, against Athletic Club at the San Mames on Saturday August 17 - changed today from the Friday.
