Man city boss congratulates united on signing Maguire
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiolahas congratulated Manchester United for signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City.
The Red Devils are expected to complete a deal for the 26-year-old within the next 24 hours after agreeing an £80m fee with Leicester.
Guardiola says City could not afford Maguire and added that the England international now makes United contenders for the Premier League title.
"Harry Maguire is a top class central defender," said Guardiola after a penalty shootout victory over Liverpool in the Community Shield at Wembley.
"We were interested but we could not afford it. Man United could afford it. Congratulations to them."
When asked if Maguire would turn United into title challengers, Guardiola said: "Yeah. Maguire is an excellent, top-class player.
"He's strong in the air, good with the ball, the build-up, he drives with the ball, he's fast, so fast. He has all the qualities. Congratulations to United for this signature."
