Man united players ratings: vary Maguire and Aron wan bissake class versus Chelsea

Man Utd demolished Chelsea 4-0 in their opening Premier League fixture on a superb day back at Old Trafford for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Daniel James of Manchester United celebrates scoring their fourth goal

David de Gea

Handled the distance shots flawlessly and saved well from Ross Barkley with his feet towards the end of the first-half. 8

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Took his pre-season form into his competitive bow and was superb at both ends, bar a blemish that Emerson almost capitalised from. 8

Harry Maguire

Chelsea's energetic forwards partially prevented Maguire from showcasing his distribution but he defended stoutly. A solid start. 8

Victor Lindelof

His passing was patchy and Chelsea had the Swede on the back foot a number of times. Looked settled alongside Maguire. 6

Luke Shaw

Solskjaer was concerned enough by Shaw's poor positioning he tasked Lindelof with passing on a message. Jose Mourinho's criticism in the studio was perhaps justified. 4

Paul Pogba

Originally quiet in his new deep-lying role but then he absolutely bossed Chelsea and created two goals to kill the game. 8

Scott McTominay

No where near as assured as he was in pre-season, McTominay was rusty with the ball and failed to impose himself in the midfield duel. 6

Andreas Pereira

A surprise starter in the No.10 role and did not justify it. Pereira had enough of the ball and eventually made it count to assist Anthony Martial. 6

Jesse Lingard

Complemented the attack and gradually grew into the game. Unassumingly effective but still threatened Chelsea more with the ball than any United attacker. 7

Marcus Rashford

Endured a woeful start until he was upended by Kurt Zouma to win the penalty. Finished it as nervelessly as he converted his Paris spotkick. Took his second brilliantly. 8

Anthony Martial

It was another game of glimpses from Martial in his second era as the United number nine but he netted the game-killing goal. 6

Subs

Daniel James

Debut goal. 7

Mason Greenwood

Late substitute. 6

Juan Mata

Late substitute. 6
